At 5 p.m., shut down your computer.
Just 150 meters west of our office entrance lies Erfei Mountain.
And this time of year, the entire hillside turns pink.

This Mountain Wasn't Always Like This

Located in the eastern part of Optics Valley, Wuhan, Erfei Mountain takes its name from two tombs of Ming Dynasty princesses on the hill, which belong to the burial grounds of the Chu royal family.

Few people know that this dreamy pink hillside was once a site of damaged terrain and landfill. After years of ecological restoration and careful maintenance, Erfei Mountain has undergone a remarkable transformation—from a scarred landscape into a green oasis in the city. Today, it stands as a landmark of ecological restoration in Wuhan.

In many ways, this mirrors the essence of life science: nurturing change at the smallest scale, restoring order, and creating the conditions for something beautiful to emerge.

As a biotechnology company rooted in Optics Valley BioCity, Reed Biotech shares a deep belief in the coexistence and interconnectedness of people and nature. In our laboratories, we advance immunoassay technologies for protein detection, providing high-quality ELISA kits and biochemical reagents to researchers and healthcare professionals worldwide.

Outside our windows, the city is conducting another kind of “biological experiment” through ecological restoration. Though our approaches differ, both reflect a shared respect for life and a commitment to shaping a better future.

Just Two Weeks to Catch Muhly Grass at Its Best

Pink muhly grass (Muhlenbergia capillaris) is a warm-season perennial grass. Its blooming season typically runs from late September through November, with peak color and fullness from mid-October to the end of the month. For about two weeks, its feathery plumes are at their fullest and most vibrant.

At Erfei Mountain, the pink muhly grass covers approximately 30,000 square meters, alongside another 18,000 square meters of grassy slopes, creating a wonderfully open landscape.

Up close, the delicate plumes look soft and intricate.

From a distance, they resemble a veil of mist, drifting slowly as the wind moves across the hillside.
